471 arrested in citywide crime crackdown

DHAKA, July 11, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested 471 people in a 24-hour operation as part of an ongoing crackdown on crime across the capital.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said 49 criminal cases were filed during the latest drive, which was conducted in different areas of the city targeting suspected criminals.

According to the DMP, 53 people were arrested in Ramna, 29 in Lalbagh, 59 in Wari, 69 in Motijheel, 78 each in Tejgaon and Mirpur, 43 each in Gulshan and Uttara, and 19 by the Detective Branch (DB).

During the operation, police seized 10.11 kilograms of cannabis, 12,284 Yaba tablets, six cans of locally produced Hunter Beer, and several weapons, including three knives, two machetes, a sickle, a cutter and a screwdriver.

Police also recovered a CNG auto-rickshaw, five mobile phones, two televisions, a microwave oven, Tk1,550 in cash and rescued two victims during the drive.

The DMP said the raids were carried out across several police station areas as part of its regular campaign against crime, illegal arms and drug trafficking.

Legal action against those arrested is ongoing, police said.
