DHAKA, July 8, 2026 (BSS) - Residents and visitors in Sylhet from today can request rides through the Uber app while drivers in the city will have access
to flexible earning opportunities as Uber launched its ridesharing services in the city.
The company said that the launch expands access to mobility services in one of Bangladesh's fastest-growing cities, making it easier for people to travel
around Sylhet while creating flexible work opportunities for local drivers, said a press release.
Describing Sylhet as a key hub for tourism, education and commerce, the company said the city has been witnessing growing demand for dependable
transportation. It said the launch would help make everyday travel more seamless for riders while enabling drivers to earn on a schedule that suits
them.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Country General Manager of Uber Bangladesh Redwan Rezvi said, "Bangladesh continues to be an important market
for Uber, and we remain committed to expanding access to reliable mobility while creating flexible economic opportunities for drivers.
We look forward to serving the people of Sylhet and becoming a trusted part of the city's everyday movement."
Uber first launched in Bangladesh in 2016 and has since expanded its footprint across multiple cities and divisions across the country.
Previously, only Uber Moto and Uber Rentals were available in Sylhet, he added.
According to the company, the launch of its ridesharing services in Sylhet marks another milestone in its continued expansion and its efforts to make mobility services more accessible across the country.
