DHAKA, July 8, 2026 (BSS) - Separate operations by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police led to the arrest of five suspects, the recovery of illegal firearms and the seizure of around 100 kilograms of cannabis in the capital and adjoining areas.
In two separate drives, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime arrested four suspects. Two were caught red-handed while allegedly attempting a robbery at Kawran Bazar with three knives in their possession, while two others were detained in Katiadi of Kishoreganj in connection with an e-fraud case under investigation by Ramna Model Police Station.
In another operation, Mirpur Model Police Station arrested a 24-year-old suspect from Mirpur after recovering a foreign-made pistol, two live rounds, four spent cartridges and a fired bullet-like object.
Police said the suspect allegedly shot and seriously injured a man over a dispute linked to territorial dominance in the Mirpur-10 area.
The victim is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, while efforts are continuing to arrest the remaining suspects.
Meanwhile, the Traffic Police's Badda Zone seized a Nissan Jeep carrying approximately 100 kilograms of cannabis during a checkpoint operation near BRAC University in Aftabnagar.
The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Police have launched a drive to identify and arrest the absconding suspect, and legal proceedings are underway.
