Rail tracks submerged, train services suspended on Ctg-Cox's Bazar route

DHAKA, July 8, 2026 (BSS) - Train services on Chattogram-Cox's Bazar route have been suspended as the rail tracts between Janalihat and Sholoshahar stations route has been submerged under about two feet of water due to continuous heavy rains.

Bangladesh Railway said due to adverse weather conditions, Parjatak Express train that left Dhaka on Tuesday could not travel from Chattogram to Cox's Bazar. Later, the train left for Dhaka again on Wednesday.

Similarly, Cox's Bazar Express that left Dhaka for Cox's Bazar on Wednesday has also been stuck at Chattogram Railway Station since early morning. 

Officials at Bangladesh Railway said it will not be possible to leave the train for Cox's Bazar until the water recedes from the railway lines in the Janalihat-Sholoshahor section.

For the convenience of stranded passengers, Bangladesh Railway said, passengers who want to cancel their journey can get a refund of their ticket money from the counter at Chattogram Railway Station.

Besides, those who want to return to Dhaka can return to Dhaka from Chattogram at 4 pm on Wednesday by Cox's Bazar Express.

Passengers who had tickets of yesterday can also travel on this train using the same tickets.

Bangladesh Railway has expressed its sincere regret for the suffering of passengers due to this unexpected situation caused by sudden natural disaster.
