DHAKA, July 7, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 555 people and recovered
illegal firearms, ammunition and a substantial quantity of narcotics during intensive month-long
special operations across the capital in June as part of its ongoing drive against crime.
According to DMP's monthly crime statistics, police filed 363 cases involving illegal arms and
narcotics during the month.
Of these, nine were arms cases, leading to the arrest of 16 suspects, while 354 were drug-related
cases in which 539 people were apprehended.
The operations resulted in the seizure of four foreign-made pistols, 88 rounds of ammunition, seven
magazines and 20 locally made weapons.
The anti-narcotics drives also yielded a significant haul, including 233,412 yaba tablets, 407.281 kg
of cannabis, 2.909 kg of heroin, 319 bottles of phensedyl, 76 bottles (450 ml) of foreign liquor,
three litres of local liquor, 24.07 litres of illicit liquor, 34 cans and four bottles of beer, 74
tapentadol tablets and 144 bottles of Eskuf syrup.
The DMP said it would continue intelligence-led special operations to curb the proliferation of
illegal arms and narcotics, strengthen public safety and maintain law and order across the capital.
