DHAKA, July 7, 2026 (BSS) - Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen made a courtesy call on Leader of the Opposition Dr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, MP, at his residence office, where they discussed a wide range of bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
During the meeting, Director of the Political Section of the Chinese Embassy Zhang Jing and Political Attaché Ru Qi were also present. The meeting was held in a warm and cordial atmosphere.
The two sides exchanged views on strengthening Bangladesh-China relations and expressed optimism that bilateral cooperation in economic, political, trade, diplomatic and other areas would be further expanded in the coming days.
They also hoped that the two countries would continue working together to accelerate development and deepen their longstanding friendship, said a press release of parliament secretariat.
The discussions covered the Teesta Barrage Mega Project, the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh Economic Corridor, Chinese investment in Bangladesh and several proposed development projects.
The opposition leader sought China’s continued support for an early resolution of the Rohingya crisis and the safe, voluntary and sustainable repatriation of the displaced Rohingya people to Myanmar.
Both sides underscored the significance of the historic friendship between Bangladesh and China, noting that the relationship has played an important role in promoting the welfare of the two peoples, development cooperation, trade expansion and cultural exchanges.
They expressed confidence that bilateral ties would become deeper and more multidimensional in the years ahead.
Opposition leader’s foreign affairs adviser, Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, MP, and member of the Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee Ali Ahmad Mabrur were present, among others.
