DHAKA, July 6, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam today said ensuring justice and security for every citizen,
rather than pursuing politics of revenge or retaliation, is the government's foremost priority.

"The government's objective is to ensure public safety by upholding the rule of law and enforcing legal provisions fairly and effectively," he said.

The Chief Whip made the remarks while addressing a consultation meeting with diplomatic missions and international development partners on the draft of
The Enforced Disappearance Prevention and Redress Act, 2026 and The National Human Rights Commission Act, 2026 at the JS Bhaban here.

The meeting was organised by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and
was chaired by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, said a press release of Parliament Secretariat.

Nurul Islam said the Prime Minister himself had long been a victim of injustice, yet he does not believe in politics driven by vengeance or retaliation.

Instead, he said, through years of struggle he has created an environment conducive to establishing justice and the rule of law in the country.

He said anyone found guilty of committing an offence would be brought under the law and tried according to the nature and gravity of the crime.

"The ultimate purpose of punishment is to establish the genuine rule of law in the country," he added.

The Chief Whip noted that many people in the past were deprived of justice despite losing their loved ones.

"Families often had to wait for years to receive justice for the killings of fathers, brothers or sisters," he said, adding that the present government is
working relentlessly to end such deprivation and ensure justice reaches the doorsteps of the people.

Highlighting the government's legal reform initiatives, he said the government welcomes the cooperation and constructive opinions of development partners in building a humane, justice-based and democratic state. Reforming laws and policies to protect citizens' rights and improve their quality of life remains a key priority of the government, he continued.

The Chief Whip also appreciated the leadership and contributions of the Law Minister in advancing the country's legal reform process.
