Shahe Alam inspects Gazipur damaged road following PM’s directive

DHAKA, July 4, 2026 (BSS) — State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam today visited a damaged section of the Rajabari–Damdama road in Sripur upazila of Gazipur following directives from the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, after allegations of substandard construction.

Around one-kilometre road, constructed at a cost of about TK nine crore, reportedly collapsed within months of completion, triggering widespread concern and media attention over construction quality and accountability.

Acting promptly on the Prime Minister’s instruction, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam visited the affected site and inspected different sections of the damaged road. 

During his visit, he gathered detailed information from officials regarding the construction process, technical standards, and possible causes behind the failure.

He directed the concerned authorities to identify those responsible through a prompt, transparent and impartial investigation. 

He also instructed that necessary administrative and legal measures be taken against those found guilty, while ensuring immediate steps to ease public suffering caused by the damaged road.

Senior officials, including Gazipur-3 lawmaker Dr. Rafiqul Islam Bacchu, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Shahriar Nazim, LGED Gazipur Executive Engineer Md. Abdul Mannan, along with local administration and LGED representatives, accompanied the minister during the inspection.
