BGB detains four with smuggled goods worth Tk 1.5 cr in Habiganj

DHAKA, July 2, 2026 (BSS) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in separate drives recovered contraband yaba tablets, bottles of Indian liquor and smuggled Indian cumin worth around Tk 1.5 crore from Habiganj district.

A total of four persons were detained and a truck was seized during the drives.

“A patrol team from Balla Border Outpost (BOP) recovered 12 bottles of Indian liquor abandoned in the Goborkhola area near the border,” according to a press release issued by Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB) today.

In another drive, BGB personnel detained four persons from the Tekerghat area of Chunarughat upazila and recovered five yaba tablets and one litre of liquor from their possession.

Meanwhile, acting on a tip-off, a BGB team set up a check post at Muktijoddha Chattar in Madhabpur upazila and intercepted a truck carrying 200 sacks of Indian cumin, the release mentioned.

Sensing the presence of the BGB checkpoint, the driver and his assistant abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. The truck and the cumin consignment were subsequently seized.

The detainees and the recovered narcotics will be handed over to Chunarughat Police Station for necessary legal action, while the seized liquor is being transferred to the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), the release a
