DHAKA, July 2, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) today announced a month-long series of programmes to commemorate the historic July-August mass uprising, honour the martyrs and injured, and observe the second anniversary of what it described as the student-people's victory against misrule.
JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir unveiled the programmes.
They said observances are aimed at preserving the history of the mass uprising, recognising the contributions of all those involved and strengthening anti-fascist national unity.
The programmes will begin on July 15 with a discussion titled "The Turning Point of the Mass Uprising" at the TSC Auditorium of Dhaka University.
On July 16, student rallies will be held in the Chattogram and Rangpur divisions with the participation of leaders and activists from university, district, city, college, upazila and municipal units under the two divisions. At the same time, memorial meetings will be organised by all other university, district and city units across the country.
A special programme marking "Private University Resistance Day" will be organised by the JCD's private university unit on July 18, followed by a memorial meeting on July 20 highlighting the role of private university students in the mass uprising.
On July 21, the Dhaka University unit of JCD will stage a live performance titled "Symbolic July" on the university campus, depicting key events of the July-August movement. The day's programmes will also include a children's art competition, a photography exhibition featuring the struggles of the past 17 years, a poetry festival and street theatre performances.
Special prayers and Milad Mahfils will be held on July 22 at the Dhaka University Central Mosque, district, city, upazila, college and municipal units across the country for eternal peace for the souls of the martyrs and the speedy recovery of those injured in the uprising.
On July 24 and 25, the JCD Central Committee, along with leaders of its regional units, will visit the graves of martyrs across the country to offer prayers and meet their family members.
The programmes will conclude with a grand student rally at the Central Shaheed Minar on August 3, where Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to attend as the chief guest.
