DHAKA, June 30, 2026 (BSS) – The government has appointed Muhammad Muhibbullahil Baki, an Islamic scholor and mufti, as the new director general (DG) of Islamic Foundation Bangladesh (IFB).

An IFB statement today said Baki joined as its DG in line with a May 21 notification assigning him as the chief of the office with grade-1 status, equivalent to a secretary to the government.

“He took over the charge at 3:00 PM today,” the IFB statement said adding soon after joining Baki, who previously was the Pesh Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, attended an introductory meeting with the IFB officials and employees at its Agargaon head office.

The statement said he expressed his sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for entrusting him with the responsibility and told the officials the incumbent government “does not treat Islamic Foundation as a political tool”.

He said the government was committed to transform the Foundation into a modern, service-oriented, and public-welfare institution with the active engagement of Islamic scholars, thinkers, researchers, and devout people.

Baki sought sincere cooperation of all officials and employees to achieve this goal and work collectively to make the foundation's activities more dynamic, transparent, accountable, and time-befitting.

He also asked them to ensure a clean working environment with discipline, honesty, and strict adherence to government rules and regulations.

Baki replaced Abdus Salam Khan, a former district judge, who returned his judicial service.
