Two accused sent to jail in high-profile Pir murder case in Kushtia

KUSHTIA, June 30, 2026 (BSS)-A court here today sent two persons  in jail accused in murder case of Pir Shamim Reza Jahangir also known as Abdur Rahman  after rejecting their bail petitions.

The two accused Khaza Ahmed and Asaduzzaman surrendered before the District and Sessions Judge's Court and sought bail after previously being on bail granted by the High Court.

Following a hearing, District and Sessions Judge Enayetul Kabir rejected their bail applications and ordered that they be sent to jail.

Khaza Ahmed, one of the accused, is the son of Abul Kalam of Philipnagar village under Daulatpur upazila. He is a former president of the Kushtia district unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir.

The other accused, Asaduzzaman, is the son of the late Ershad Ali of Hosenabad village in the same upazila and serves as president of the Daulatpur upazila unit of Islami Andolan Bangladesh.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), an angry mob attacked a religious shrine in Daulatpur upazila on April 11 this year after alleging desecration of the Holy Quran. During the attack, the mob vandalized and set fire to the parts of the shrine. Pir Shamim Reza Jahangir was dragged out of his room and fatally assaulted with sharp weapons and sticks.

Three days after the incident the victim's elder brother Fazlur Rahman Santu filed a murder case with Daulatpur Police Station.

The investigation into the case and subsequent legal proceedings are going on.
