DHAKA, June 29, 2026 (BSS)- A delegation of 11 marginal farmers from different unions under Durgapur upazila of Netrokona district today made a courtesy call on Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

During the meeting, the farmers highlighted a number of issues relating to agriculture and rural development.

They sought government support to combine harvesting, easy availability of fertilisers and high-quality seeds, expanding irrigation facilities, guaranteeing fair price of agricultural produce, increasing access to subsidies and agricultural loans, and support to address the adverse impacts of climate change.

The delegation also drew the Deputy Speaker’s attention for constructing roads, bridges and culverts, preventing river erosion, building a drug-free society, and ensuring the availability of Family Cards and Farmer Cards for eligible families.

They praised the government’s continued initiatives in formulating and implementing farmer-friendly policies, said a press release.

Barrister Kayser Kamal expressed his gratitude to the farmers for electing him as member of parliament from Durgapur.

He said the contribution of marginal farmers to the economy and food security is vital. The government is working relentlessly to safeguard farmers’ welfare and ensure fair prices for their produce, he said.

The Deputy Speaker said the government has been implementing various programmes to make agriculture more sustainable, productive and profitable through the expansion of modern farming technologies, improved seeds, fertiliser and irrigation facilities, agricultural incentives and easy-term farm loans.

He said strengthening the rural economy and improving the living standard of farmers remain among the government’s key development priorities.

To this end, the government is committed to making agricultural services at the grassroots more effective, expanding the use of modern agricultural technologies and extending necessary support to farmers.

Barrister Kayser Kamal also assured the delegation that the issues relating to roads, bridges, culverts, river erosion prevention, a drug-free society and issuance of Farmer Cards would receive due consideration.

He called upon public representatives, government agencies and farmers to work together for the development of the country’s agriculture sector, saying, development of farmers means the development of the country.

The Jatiya Sangsad and the government will always play a supportive role in implementing necessary laws, policies and programmes to protect farmers’ interests, he said.

He also stressed enhancing farmers’ capacity to cope with climate change and expanding technology-based farming practices.

The members of the delegation thanked the Deputy Speaker for giving them a patient hearing and sought his continued support in resolving farmers’ problems and ensuring the overall development of the area.
