DHAKA, June 29, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of eminent artist, cultural personality and Ekushey Padak-winning painter Mustafa Monwar.
In a condolence message, he said Mustafa Monwar was a shining star in the art and cultural arena of this country as he elevated the puppet dance art in Bangladesh to international standards.
The state minister said this art gained its modern form in Bangladesh under the guidance of Mustafa Monwar.
He respectfully recalled the outstanding contribution of this great artist to the country's mass media and cultural sector.
Mustafa Monwar's leadership and creative role in important institutions like Bangladesh Television (BTV), Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, BFDC and the National Media Institute have taken the country's media to a unique height, Yasser said.
"His unique creative works, especially on BTV, have inspired generations after generations. His visionary initiatives in the development of media and the search for new talents will be remembered forever," he said.
Yasser described Mustafa Monwar's death as an irreparable loss to the country's cultural and creative arena, saying his multifaceted artistic works and contributions would continue to inspire future generations.
He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
