DHAKA, June 28, 2026 (BSS)- Dhaka Metropolitan Police today described as baseless and misleading the information circulating on social media regarding the alleged recovery of multiple bodies from the Turag River.
“There have been no incidents of serial body recoveries, murders or any similar occurrences in Turag Police Station under the Uttara Division of the DMP,” Joint Commissioner (Crime) of DMP Faruk Hossain told a press briefing today.
Faruk Hossain said no complaint, general diary (GD) or case has been filed with Turag Police Station by any individual or organisation in connection with such allegations.
He said the DMP had thoroughly investigated the matter after various social media platforms circulated information, photographs and videos claiming that multiple bodies had been recovered from the Turag River.
“Our investigation found no truth to the claims being circulated on social media,” he said, adding that Bangladesh Police had already issued an official statement through its verified Facebook page clarifying the matter.
The DMP official also said the geographical jurisdictions of Pallabi and Rupnagar police stations under the Mirpur Crime Division had been reviewed and no links were found between the social media claims and the two police stations.
“No complaints, information or evidence supporting such incidents have been found at either Pallabi or Rupnagar police stations,” he added.
Faruk Hossain urged people to refrain from believing, sharing or disseminating unverified information circulated on social media.
He warned that rumours, misleading information or provocative content could create public panic and adversely affect law and order.
Replying to a question, he said the DMP could only speak about incidents within its jurisdiction. No such incident has occurred within the DMP area,” he asserted.
