RANGPUR, June 22, 2026 (BSS) – To ensure maximum peace and order in the city, the Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) authorities have banned the carrying of weapons and fireworks during the Tazia procession marking the holy Ashura.
The decision was taken at a meeting held in the RpMP conference room on Sunday to maintain law and order, ensure public safety and complete the Tazia procession peacefully.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration and Finance) Naresh Chakma presided over the event arranged under the guidance of RpMP Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) Tofail Ahmed, Deputy Commissioners of Police Md Habibur Rahman, Md Mahfuzur Rahman, Sanatan Chakraborty and Maruf Ahmed, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Shariful Islam, local leaders and representatives, were present.
In the meeting, issues related to law and order, public safety and traffic management were discussed focusing on the Tazia procession on the holy Ashura.
After the discussion, it was decided that maximum peace and order should be maintained during the Tazia procession.
Representatives of the Tazia Procession Committees of Babupara Huda Camp and NRC Camp said that there was no fear of any conflict between them.
Alternative routes will be used where necessary during their separate Tazia processions to maintain normal traffic flow.
In addition, carrying any kind of indigenous weapons, sticks and bursting crackers or fireworks in the procession will be completely prohibited.
Like other representatives, Tazia Procession committee representative Rubel Ahmed said that they will take out the Tazia procession from the city’s Grand Hotel intersection area on the Ashura without carrying sticks.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Md Habibur Rahman said in the meeting that if all Tazia procession committees cannot agree, then each will hold a Tazia procession separately in their own areas.
No route permit will be given in case of violation of the rules. Strict legal action will be taken if there is a lack of coordination. At the same time, the procession must start and end within the stipulated time.
“All units of the RpMP will perform their duties with utmost caution to maintain the overall law and order situation in the metropolis,” he said, and called everyone to observe the holy Ashura in a peaceful and disciplined environment.
