Ex-Shibir leader Jisan remanded for 2 days in Cumilla rape case

CUMILLA, June 21, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today granted a two-day remand for Jisan Mia Pradhan, former central leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, in a case involving allegations of rape, forced abortion and criminal intimidation.

The order was issued by Judge of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court-3 of Cumilla Tayeb Uddin, Advocate Monir Hossain Patwary, lawyer of the complainant said.

According to the court sources, Pradhan's family claimed that he had gone missing from June 11. A General Diary (GD) was filed with Daudkandi Thana following the day. Later on that night, he was reportedly found unconscious at Laksam Junction area of the district.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old woman filed a case against Pradhan at Daudkandi Model Police Station, accusing him of rape and destroying a fetus developing inside her.

Following the case, police arrested Pradhan and produced him before a court on June 16 after taking him from Cumilla Medical College Hospital. After a hearing, the court ordered that he be sent to Cumilla Central Jail.

The Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Shamsul Alam Shah, Officer-in-Charge of the Cumilla District Detective Branch (DB), produced Pradhan before the court and sought a seven-day remand for further interrogation. After hearing both the sides, the court granted him a two-day remand.

Talking about the development, OC DB Shamsul Alam Shah said the court had permitted investigators to question Pradhan on remand for two days and expressed hope that the interrogation would yield important information regarding the investigation.

Jisan Pradhan was an Assistant International Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, central committee and was also the former president of Cumilla West district unit of the organization. He has been removed from his positions recently following the allegation of rape.
