DHAKA, June 21, 2026 (BSS) - The 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 was celebrated in Dhaka today with enthusiastic participation of yoga
practitioners, students and wellness advocates under the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing".

The event was organised by the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) of the High Commission of India at Bashundhara Sports City, according to an Indian
High Commission press release.

Observed annually on June 21, the International Day of Yoga promotes yoga as an ancient practice that supports physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

This year's theme underscored the role of yoga in promoting longevity, fitness and mental wellness across all age groups.

A major attraction of the programme was the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session conducted by IGCC Yoga Teacher Shahanaz Parvin and her students.

Participants performed a series of yoga postures and breathing exercises designed for beginners and intermediate practitioners.

The programme also featured yoga demonstrations by members of several leading yoga organisations in Bangladesh, including Joysan Yoga, Hu Art of Yoga, Self
Healing Hub, Art of Living, Evergreen Yoga School, Notre Dame Yoga and Meditation Club, Quantum Foundation and Brahma Kumaris' Academy of a Better
World.

A special Ayurveda Lounge was set up to promote awareness about Ayurveda as a holistic healthcare system.

The lounge featured displays by The Ayurveda Medical & Research, Ousadhi Laboratories and Oshin Naturals, while visitors also had access to books on
Ayurveda available through the High Commission of India Library.

The celebration marked the culmination of a series of outreach activities organised ahead of IDY 2026.

Since a curtain-raiser event on May 6, the IGCC and the High Commission of India have organised and supported more than 36 yoga-related programmes
across Bangladesh in collaboration with yoga institutes, educational institutions and media organisations.
