DHAKA, June 21, 2026 (BSS) - The 46th meeting of the Board of Governors of
the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) was held today at the
conference room of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in the capital.
Fisheries and Livestock minister and Chairman of the Board Mohammed Amin Ur
Rashid presided over the meeting, also attended by State Minister for
Fisheries and Livestock and Co-chairman of the board Sultan Salauddin Tuku.
Members of Parliament (MPs) Lutfor Rahman Kajol (Cox's Bazar-3), Md Anwarul
Haque (Netrokona-2), and Rofiqul Islam Hilali (Netrokona-3) were also
present.
Member (Secretary) of the Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Institutions
Division of the Planning Commission Md Mahbubul Hossain Khan and Secretary to
the ministry Md Delwar Hossain also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the board reviewed the progress of fisheries research in
the country, including the application of modern technologies and strategies
to boost production.
Detailed discussions were held on sustainable management of aquatic resources
and future action plans for the fisheries research sector.
The board members stressed the need to make research activities more dynamic,
action-oriented and timely in order to address emerging challenges in the
sector.
They also expressed their commitment to working collaboratively to strengthen
research initiatives and accelerate the overall development of the fisheries
sector.
Director General (DG) of the Department of Fisheries Dr Md Khaled Kanak,
Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council Dr Md
Abdus Salam, Additional Secretary of Finance ministry Ms Sahana, BFRI DG Dr
Anuradha Bhadra and BFRI Director Dr Md Latiful Islam of BFRI, were also
present at the meeting.
