DHAKA, June 18, 2026 (BSS) – Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kayser Kamal today directed the concerned departments of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat and Dhaka City Corporation to intensify efforts to make the Manik Mia Avenue area adjoining the parliament more green, clean and visitor-friendly.

While inspecting an ongoing cleanliness drive in the area, the Deputy Speaker said Manik Mia Avenue, adjacent to the Jatiya Sangsad complex, is one of the capital’s most important and picturesque public spaces, attracting visitors, pedestrians, cultural enthusiasts, sports lovers and people from across the country every day.

Emphasizing the need for a cleaner and more environment-friendly public space, he said necessary measures should be taken to enhance civic amenities and maintain a pleasant atmosphere for visitors, said a press release.

The Deputy Speaker noted that the lack of adequate public toilet facilities in the area has long caused inconvenience to visitors.

Considering the importance of the National Parliament complex and the large number of people visiting the area, he stressed the need to ensure that mobile public toilets remain functional and accessible.

“Hundreds of people come to Manik Mia Avenue every day to enjoy the architectural beauty and natural surroundings of the Jatiya Sangsad, one of the world’s iconic architectural landmarks,” he said.

Referring to littering and waste accumulation in different parts of the area, he said the Parliament authorities have undertaken regular cleaning activities to address shortcomings in cleanliness and environmental management.

The Deputy Speaker said cleanliness is not only a matter of aesthetics but is also closely linked to public health and environmental protection.

With the monsoon season approaching, he warned that stagnant water, waste and unhygienic conditions could contribute to mosquito breeding and increase the risk of dengue and other diseases.

He called for strengthening waste management systems alongside regular cleanliness drives and directed the city corporation authorities to extend necessary support and ensure coordinated action in this regard.

Barrister Kayser Kamal also underscored the importance of transforming Manik Mia Avenue and surrounding areas into greener and more environmentally sustainable public spaces.

He instructed the authorities to plant more trees, flowers and ornamental plants along the Parliament boundary walls and in suitable vacant spaces.

“Such initiatives will help maintain ecological balance while creating a more pleasant and shaded environment for visitors,” he said.

The Deputy Speaker expressed hope that coordinated efforts by the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, Public Works Department, city corporation and other relevant agencies would transform Manik Mia Avenue into a model clean and green public space in the capital.

Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, along with senior officials of the Public Works Department, Dhaka City Corporation and other concerned agencies, was present during the inspection.
