Workshop held to formulate framework of media commission

DHAKA, June 18, 2026 (BSS)- Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon today said a historic journey has begun to constitute an independent media commission bringing together all stakeholders for the first time in the country's history.

He said this while briefing journalists after a high-level workshop at a city hotel with a view to formulating the framework for a national media commission.
He said, “On behalf of the government of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, I would like to officially share this good news with all media-related institutions, individuals, and the nation—we have begun a united journey from today to create an environment for an independent media.”

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury and the Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman were present at the briefing.

Representatives from the National Editors Council, Editors’ Council, Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (NOAB), Television Editors Council, Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO), National Media Watch Council, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), Broadcast Journalists Center (BJC), Photo Journalists Association, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust, as well as television owners, editors, representatives of private organizations, and leading media experts of the country, attended the workshop.
