DHAKA, June 15, 2026 (BSS)- The government has created 82 new permanent legal
aid posts under the revenue budget to strengthen legal aid services within
the judicial service of the country.
The Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and
Parliamentary Affairs recently issued a gazette notification in this regard.
According to the notification, 72 posts of Chief Legal Aid Officer at grade-3
have been created. Of these, 64 posts will be stationed at legal aid offices
in 64 districts of the country while eight posts will be assigned to
metropolitan legal aid offices in Dhaka, Gazipur, Chattogram, Sylhet,
Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barishal.
In addition, two grade-3 posts of Legal Aid Officer (Joint District and
Sessions Judge) have been created for the Appellate Division and the High
Court Division of the country's Supreme Court.
The government has also created eight grade-4 posts of Legal Aid Officer
(Senior Assistant Judge), which will serve at the eight metropolitan legal
aid offices.
The notification further stated that the previously created post of Supreme
Court Legal Aid Officer (Additional District and Sessions Judge) has been
renamed as the Chief Legal Aid Officer (Additional District and Sessions
Judge), Supreme Court. However, no changes have been made to the salary scale
of the position.
The expenses for the newly-created posts will be met from the allocated
budget of the Department of Legal Aid Services under the Law and Justice
Division.
The positions were created following the recommendation of the Judicial Posts
Creation Committee and with the approval of the President.
