RAJSHAHI, June 15, 2026 (BSS) - A discussion meeting and workshop on the implementation of the Bangladesh Police Women Network (BPWN) Strategic Plan 2024-2027 was held at the POM Conference Hall of Rajshahi Police Lines today.

The day-long programme brought together 84 police officers and senior leaders from Rajshahi Division and Range.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Rajshahi Range Mohammad Shahjahan attended the event as chief guest. Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Faizul Kabir was present as a special guest.

Addressing the workshop, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Atia Husna said Bangladesh Police is gradually transforming into a technology-driven and humane institution. She noted that around 18,000 women police personnel are currently serving across the country and stressed the importance of enhancing their leadership and professional capacities.

She said BPWN has been playing a significant role in advancing women's participation and leadership in the police force.

BPWN representatives conducted thematic sessions on the organisation's strategic plan, work-life balance, digital security and technology-based responses to gender-based violence. A UN Women representative highlighted gender-sensitive policing and measures to prevent workplace sexual harassment.

Speaking at the event, Shahjahan said women police officers must continue improving their professional skills and competence. He stressed the need for accountability, commitment and a supportive working environment to achieve greater efficiency.

European Union representative Laila Jasmim Banu described BPWN as an important institutional platform and expressed optimism that the strategic plan would advance further through collective efforts.

During the open discussion, participants emphasised strengthening mechanisms for addressing sexual harassment complaints, revitalising prevention committees and increasing awareness among police personnel. They also called for enhanced training and logistical support to tackle cybercrime.

UN Women and BPWN have long been working together to strengthen institutional capacity, promote gender-sensitive policing and improve victim-centred services for women and girls. The two organisations are currently implementing an EU-funded project titled "Ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Public Spaces, Workplaces and in Tertiary Educational Institutions in Bangladesh (ESGBV)."
