DHAKA, June 14, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister's wife and Vice President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation Dr Zubaida Rahman has said that extending educational opportunities to the doorsteps of people in underprivileged areas can help unlock latent talent across the country.

"In past years, due to neglect, the infrastructure of many schools has deteriorated and many institutions are in a dilapidated condition. But students have never stopped learning. Teachers remain determined even in the face of hardship and have become more confident and attentive," she said.

Dr Zubaida Rahman made the remarks as the chief guest at the Dhaka district-level 'Startup, Science Project and Innovation Idea Showcasing Programme' held at BAF Shaheen College in the capital today.

The event was organised by the Dhaka District Administration. A total of 37 teams from different educational institutions of Dhaka participated in the exhibition.

Among the participants, Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Public College secured first place, Rajuk Uttara Model College finished second and Holy Cross College secured third place. Dr Zubaida Rahman later distributed prizes among the winning students.

During her speech, she recalled a motivational message written on the wall of a dilapidated school in Indurkani upazila of Pirojpur.

"Today I remember a very important lesson written in red on the broken white wall of 54 No. South School. It will make us reflect deeply on life. The message reads: 'A person never fails; either they win or they learn,'" she said.

She added that such messages found in remote and under-resourced schools often carry important life lessons.

Earlier, Dr Zubaida Rahman, accompanied by Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon, visited various science projects and innovative works presented by students. Prime Minister's Adviser for Education and Research Mahdi Amin was also present at the event, among others.

In his remarks as special guest, Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon said the government's goal is not only to achieve GPA-5 results but to develop students into capable human beings through creativity and skills.

"We are moving away from rote learning and traditional grading systems. Our aim is to build human capital through creativity, talent and practical skills," he said.

He further said the innovation fair began with nearly 36,000 ideas submitted by students from across the country.

"Just as Newton's innovative thinking led to the discovery inspired by a falling apple, similar creativity lies behind this startup and science fair," the minister added.
