KHULNA, June 14, 2026 (BSS) – Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today called for the establishment of a modern, technology-equipped cancer hospital in Khulna, saying that the country still lacks adequate advanced cancer treatment facilities, forcing many patients to seek treatment abroad.
Speaking as the chief guest at a cancer awareness seminar held at the GIZ Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban in Khulna, he said a cancer unit at Khulna Medical College Hospital is nearing completion, but it would not be sufficient to meet the growing demand for comprehensive cancer care in the region.
Manju urged visiting Chinese healthcare officials to consider supporting the establishment of a state-of-the-art cancer hospital in Khulna.
He also emphasized the need for online medical consultation services with Chinese hospitals, removal of language barriers, and simplification of visa procedures for patients seeking treatment abroad.
The seminar was organised by SEOK Healthcare to raise public awareness about cancer, disseminate accurate information on preventive healthcare, and explore opportunities for international medical cooperation.
KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed presided over the event.
Among others, cancer specialist and Deputy Director of Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital Han Liangfu and the hospital’s International Business Development Manager Lily Wu addressed the seminar as special guests. SEOK Healthcare Chief Executive Officer M M Masumuzzaman moderated the programme.
Representatives of the Chinese hospital highlighted its international-standard medical services, advanced cancer treatment technologies, and experience in providing healthcare services to patients from different countries.
They also discussed the importance of early diagnosis, preventive measures, and modern approaches to cancer treatment. Senior KCC officials, including department heads and ward-level representatives, attended the seminar.
