Bangladesh mission stands by sick expatriates in Maldives

DHAKA, June 14, 2026 (BSS) - A delegation of Bangladesh High Commissioner in 
Malé, has visited several Bangladeshi expatriates undergoing treatment at 
hospitals in the Maldives and assured them of all possible assistance, 
reaffirming its commitment to the welfare and protection of overseas 
Bangladeshis.

A delegation led by First Secretary (Labour) Motasem Billah recently visited 
the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and ADK Hospital in the Maldivian 
capital to inquire about the health conditions of the patients and review 
their treatment progress, according to a press release issued by the 
Bangladesh High Commission in Malé today.
 
During the visit, the delegation met Abu Yousuf, who is receiving intensive 
care at ADK Hospital after undergoing surgery following a serious workplace 
accident.
 
The delegation discussed his condition with attending physicians and 
requested that he be provided with the best possible medical care.

The team also visited Riaz, Md Babul Sarkar and Hannan at IGMH and discussed 
their treatment progress with doctors. The High Commission assured full 
support to those wishing to return to Bangladesh after completing treatment, 
including assistance with the necessary formalities.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives Dr Md Nazmul Islam expressed 
deep sympathy for the affected expatriates, saying every Bangladeshi living 
abroad is an inseparable part of the national family.

He said the High Commission would continue to provide support for the 
welfare, treatment, safety and, when necessary, safe repatriation of 
Bangladeshi expatriates.

The High Commissioner also praised the government's expatriate-friendly 
initiatives and reiterated the mission's commitment to safeguarding the 
welfare, rights, dignity and security of Bangladeshi citizens residing in the 
Maldives.
