CHATTOGRAM, June 14, 2026 (BSS)- Engineer Belayet Hossain, new chairman of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) has said he would give importance to alleviating public sufferings and ensuring sustainable development of the port city.

CDA aims to transform Chattogram into a modern and liveable city through systematic development in collaboration with all relevant service agencies, he told journalist at Shah Amanat International Airport.

He said the primary objective of all service agencies should be to enhance the quality of life in the city. He noted that existing challenges facing the city cannot be addressed without coordinated efforts. 

Chattogram serves as the economic hub of the nation. However, issues such as waterlogging, haphazard urbanization, and a lack of coordination are obstructing the city's potential, he said adding that CDA will collaborate with other local government and utility bodies to make a sustainable city.

“No unplanned development will be permitted in the future and my primary objective will be to contribute positively to the city,” Belayet said.
