DHAKA, June 14, 2026 (BSS)- A metropolitan magistrate court here today ordered the imprisonment of Md. Al Amin Mahin, 37, after the completion of his four-day remand in a case filed over the murder of Billal Hossain, former convener of Ramna Thana unit of the Jatiotabadi Swechchhasebak Dal.
Police produced Mahin before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court after the remand period ended and sought his detention in jail until the investigation is completed. Following a hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order.
Earlier on June 11 last, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Zakir Hossain had granted a four-day remand for Mahin in the case.
According to the case statement, Billal Hossain operated a business at Arafat Market in the Ramna area. He had been involved in a long-standing dispute with several individuals including Didarul Islam Babu, over alleged extortion from local traders.
On June 8 at around 7:30 pm, Didarul Islam Babu allegedly called Billal to the rear of Arafat Market under the pretext of a mediation meeting.
Investigators said that several accused persons were already waiting there and attacked on him indiscriminately. At one stage, Babu and his associates allegedly hit him with iron rods, concrete stumps and sharp weapons.
The complaint further alleged that Babu stabbed Billal in his chest with a sharp weapon during the attack, leaving him critically injured.
Local residents rescued Billal and took him to Islami Bank Hospital but later he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) as his condition deteriorated.
Attending doctors of the hospital declared him dead at about 9:45 pm on the day while he was undergoing treatment.
Billal's wife, Asia Khatun, filed the case on June 9 with Ramna Police Station against 21 named individuals, including Didarul Islam Babu, and 7-8 unidentified others.
