BAGERHAT, June 14, 2026 (BSS) - Valiant freedom fighter of Bagerhat district Md Akbar Azad passed away on Saturday evening.
He was 75.
Akbar Azad, Commander of ‘Muktijoddha Command Council, Bagerhat District’ and former BNP leader breathed his last at a private clinic in Khulna at 9.30 pm yesterday while undergoing treatment.
He is survived by his three daughters, political colleagues, relatives and numerous well-wishers.
Akbar Azad was an organizer of the great 1971 War of Liberation in the district.
Inspired by the ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, he played a pioneering role in building the organizational foundation of BNP from Jagdal to Baruipara Union of the district.
His contribution to nationalist politics at the grassroots is still remembered.
Muktijoddha Md Akbar Azad is the former UP Chairman of Baruipara Union Parishad of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila.
He also served as the president of the Nationalist Muktijoddha Dal Bagerhat District Branch and played an important role of the Bagerhat District Commander of the Muktijoddha Command Council.
His death has cast a shadow of deep sorrow across Bagerhat.
Leaders of various political, social and professional organizations expressed deep sorrow over his death. They expressed sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased.
His Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Baruipara Madrasa premises at 11:00 am today. Later, he was buried in the family graveyard of his native village Baruipara with state honour.
