Tree plantation held in Rajshahi to mark PM's 25-cr tree campaign in 5-yr

RAJSHAHI, June 13, 2026 (BSS)- As part of the simultaneous nationwide 
programme launched by the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Rajshahi District 
Administration and the Social Forestry Department organised an inauguration 
programme of the tree plantation this afternoon at the Divisional Women's 
Sports Complex ground.
 
Earlier, the present government's election pledge of "Planting 25 crore trees 
in 5 years" was formally inaugurated by the Premier through a tree plantation 
at the Malumghat Reserved Forest in Chakaria in Cox's Bazar to strengthen 
environmental protection and climate resilience.
 
Those present at the programme included Land Minister Md. Mizanur Rahman 
Minu, MP, Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, 
Divisional Commissioner Dr. ANM Bazlur Rashid, Deputy Commissioner of 
Rajshahi Kazi Shahidul Islam and DIG of Rajshahi Range Mohammad Shahjahan.

Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Mohammad Faizul Kabir; 
Superintendent of Police of Rajshahi District Mohammad Naimul Hasan; 
Conservator of Forests, Social Forestry Department Muhammad Subedar Islam and 
Divisional Forest Officer Dr. Jahangir Alam were present, among others. 

Under the programme, various fruit-bearing, forest and medicinal species 
including Neem, Kadam, Kathbadam (Indian almond), Jamun (black plum), Chalta 
(elephant apple), Mango, Guava, Jackfruit, Olive and Amla were planted to 
enhance environmental protection and climate resilience.
 
Tree planting activities have also begun in Paba upazila, as part of the 
nationwide tree plantation programme.
 
Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP, took part in the tree plantation programme 
at the upazila parishad (UP) premises. At that time, saplings of various 
fruit, forest and medicinal species were planted on the UP compound. Similar 
programmes were also held in the Paba Baya and Mohanpur UP areas.
 
The organisers said the programme was undertaken to maintain ecological 
balance, combat the impacts of climate change, and increase greenery.
 
Under the programme, trees will be planted in phases at various educational 
institutions, government offices, roadsides, open spaces and premises of 
social institutions in the Paba upazila.
