Whip Bakul visits fire-ravaged KCMCH, lauds rescue efforts

KHULNA, June 13, 2026 (BSS) - National Parliament Whip and Khulna-3 lawmaker Rakibul Islam Bakul on Friday visited the fire-damaged Khulna City Medical College Hospital (KCMCH), expressing gratitude that no lives were lost in the devastating blaze.

Inspecting the severely affected hospital building in the evening, Bakul said efforts were underway to restore the hospital's operations at the earliest possible time.

Talking to journalists after the visit, he said the authorities were closely monitoring treatment arrangements for more than 250 patients who had been shifted to different healthcare facilities following the fire.

The whip praised members of the Fire Service, Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), BNP and its associate bodies, along with volunteers of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, for their role in the rescue operation.

He said the rescuers risked their lives to evacuate patients and support those affected by the incident, describing their contribution as exemplary.

Bakul said BNP would remain grateful for their humanitarian efforts and responsible conduct during the crisis.

He also reiterated that BNP had always stood beside people during natural and man-made disasters and would continue to serve the public with the same commitment.

The lawmaker assured that all transferred patients receiving treatment at public and private hospitals in Khulna were under regular supervision and that necessary support was being provided to facilitate their recovery.

During the visit, he directed party leaders and activists to stay engaged at the hospitals where the patients had been admitted and extend all possible assistance.

Among others, Khulna Metropolitan BNP President and newly appointed Khulna Development Authority (KDA) Chairman SM Shafiqul Alam Mona, Khulna District BNP Convener Moniruzzaman Montu, Khulna City BNP General Secretary and BCB Director Shafiqul Alam Tuhin, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan, KCMCH Director Dr Rafiqul Islam Bablu, senior political leaders and government officials were present.
