TANGAIL, June 12, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku today said the government will take steps to renovate the dilapidated Bhasani Hall in Tangail to preserve the legacy of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani and revive the district's cultural heritage.

Speaking to journalists after inspecting the hall in Tangail town, Tuku said Bhasani Hall is a historic institution established by Maulana Bhasani, one of the country's most influential political leaders.

Preserving this hall is our responsibility. Necessary measures will be taken to renovate the deteriorated structure within the shortest possible time, he said.

The state minister noted that Tangail was once known as a cultural city and Bhasani Hall served as a major centre for education, literature and cultural activities, including dramas, musical performances and discussions.

He said years of neglect and lack of maintenance had left the hall in a rundown condition, causing cultural activities there to cease.

Tuku said the government has already undertaken various initiatives to promote cultural activities and engage the younger generation in cultural practices.

He also said the historic auditorium, inaugurated by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, carries significant historical value and deserves proper preservation.

"The government will take effective steps to restore this historic establishment and bring back its former glory," he added.

Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department Khalekuzzaman Chowdhury, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sanjoy Kumar Mohanta and local officials were present during the visit.
