CHATTOGRAM, June 12, 2026 (BSS) - Engineer Belayet Hossain has been appointed as the Chairman of the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) on a contractual basis for one year.

A notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration confirmed the appointment on Thursday.

According to the notification, issued under Section 7(1) of the Chattogram Development Authority Act, 2018, Engineer Belayet Hossain has been appointed as CDA Chairman (Grade-2) for a one-year term from the date of his joining.

He will not be allowed to engage in any other profession, business, or employment in any government, semi-government, or private organization during his tenure, it said.

He replaced Engineer Md. Nurul Karim, who previously served as CDA Chairman on a three-year contractual appointment starting from September 2, 2024.

Upon his appointment, Belayet Hossain expressed gratitude and sought public support.

Belayet Hossain hails from Sandwip upazila in Chattogram. He was a BNP candidate for the Chattogram-3 (Sandwip) constituency in the 13th national election. 

Earlier in his career, he served as president of the Chhatra Dal at Chattogram Polytechnic Institute in 1984, and later became general secretary of the institute's student union. He also served as joint convener of Chittagong Metropolitan Chhatra Dal in 1986.
