RAJSHAHI, June 12, 2026 (BSS) - Abul Kalam Azad Sweet has been appointed as the Chairman of the Rajshahi Development Authority (RDA) on a contractual basis.

According to a notification issued on Thursday by the Contract and Foreign Appointment Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration, he has been given a one-year appointment as Chairman (Grade-2) of the RDA from the date of his joining.

Azad's appointment will remain valid for one year, subject to the condition that he must sever all professional, business, or employment ties with any government, semi-government, private institution, or organization during his tenure, said the notification.

Abul Kalam Azad is a former president of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Jubo Dal. He also previously served as president of the Metropolitan Chhatra Dal. 

He is currently the vice-president of the Rajshahi Metropolitan unit of the BNP and is widely known as a local BNP leader.
