DHAKA, June 12, 2026 (BSS) - Newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi arrived here today through the Benapole-Petrapole land port, highlighting the significance of cross-border connectivity in the bilateral relationship.

Indian Deputy High Commissioner Pawan Badhe received Trivedi upon his arrival at the Benapole land port in the morning, according to the Indian High Commission here.

His wife, Minal Trivedi, accompanied him as they entered Bangladesh through the busy border crossing linking the two neighbouring countries.

According to the high commission, the envoy's arrival through the land port carries symbolic significance, underscoring the central role of border connectivity in Bangladesh-India relations.

The move also complements India's recent efforts to modernise border management, including the launch of a new Land Port Management System earlier this week.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced Trivedi's appointment as the next High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh on April 27.

A seasoned politician, Trivedi served as India's Union Minister for Railways and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government as a member of the Trinamool Congress. He later left the party in February, 2021 and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) the following month.
