DHAKA, June 9, 2026 (BSS) - US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent T. Christensen made a courtesy call on Leader of the Opposition Md. Shafiqur Rahman at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban here today.
The meeting took place at the Opposition Leader's office in the Jatiya Sangsad where both sides discussed issues of mutual interest between Bangladesh and the United States in a cordial and constructive atmosphere.
Among those present were Political and Economic Counsellor Eric Geelan and Political Officer Hermanoschy Bernard from the U.S. Embassy.
During the discussions, the two sides exchanged views on Bangladesh's post-election political and economic situation, the upcoming national budget, and prospects for expanding bilateral trade and investment, said a press release.
Broader aspects of Bangladesh-U.S. relations also came under discussion.
The meeting also focused on the development of democratic institutions, strengthening governance, enhancing economic cooperation, and various regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Both sides expressed hope that the existing relations between Bangladesh and the United States would further strengthen based on mutual respect, trust, and cooperation.
The Opposition Leader was accompanied by his Foreign Affairs Adviser Barrister Mir Ahmad bin Quasem Arman, MP, and members of the party's foreign affairs advisory team, including Ali Ahmed Mabrur.
