DHAKA, June 8, 2026 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad Whip M. Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu said whenever Bangladesh has faced crises and uncertainty, the BNP has played a role in establishing and restoring democracy by uniting the people.
“Political ideals, development philosophy, and popularity of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman have repeatedly enabled the BNP to win the people's confidence and return to state power,” he said.
Dulu was addressing a discussion organized by Bangladesh Ganotantrik Sangskritik Jote at Jatiya Press Club, marking the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Ziaur Rahman.
He said Ziaur Rahman inspired the people of the country to join the Liberation War by declaring independence.
The whip said former prime minister late Begum Khaleda Zia had struggled throughout her life to protect democracy and national sovereignty.
He said after August 5, when people were concerned about the prospects of elections, BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, now Prime Minister, played an important role in determining the election date through a meeting held in London.
Dulu said as long as Bangladesh exists, the people of the country will remember the contributions of the Zia family.
He said after a long period, a democratic government is set to present a balanced budget aimed at public welfare.
He said budget is being formulated while carrying a massive debt burden left by the previous government.
According to him, it will be a people-oriented budget that will help improve education, healthcare, and the overall standard of living.
He said that the budget would reflect the long political experience and leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in addressing various domestic and international challenges.
Bangladesh Ganotantrik Sangskritik Jote President Humayun Kabir Bepari chaired the programme while senior journalist Mostafa Kamal, BNP National Executive Committee member and freedom fighter Babul Ahmed, Acting General Secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Cultural Organization and journalist Asaduzzaman Babul, as well as leaders of the organization also spoke.
