TANGAIL, June 6, 2026 (BSS) - Traffic pressure on the Dhaka-Tangail highway and the Jamuna Bridge remains high even after the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, as thousands of people, including employees of private organizations and garment workers, return to their workplaces in Dhaka.

According to the Jamuna Bridge Authority, a total of 40,580 vehicles crossed the bridge during the 24-hour period from 12:00 am Thursday to 12:00 am Friday. Toll collections during this period amounted to Taka 3.14 crore.

Syed Riaz Uddin, Executive Engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office, confirmed the information on Saturday afternoon.

Bridge authority sources said that of the total vehicles, 15,448 were travelling towards North Bengal, generating toll revenue of Taka 1,35,58,800. Meanwhile, 25,132 vehicles headed towards Dhaka, contributing Taka 1,78,68,450 in toll collections.

Speaking to BSS, Syed Riaz Uddin said that despite the end of the Eid holidays, traffic pressure on the Jamuna Bridge and the Dhaka-Tangail highway remains significantly higher than normal.

To manage the flow of vehicles, authorities are operating 18 toll booths—nine on each side of the bridge. Two dedicated booths have also been allocated for motorcycles to ensure smoother movement.

He added that vehicle crossings have continued uninterrupted, with more than 40,000 vehicles using the bridge within the 24-hour period, resulting in toll revenue exceeding Taka 3.14 crore.
