DHAKA, June 03, 2026 (BSS) – A team from Adabor Police Station has arrested nine members of an alleged kidnapping gang involved in abductions in the Mohammadpur and Shyamoli areas and extortion of ransom.
The arrestees are- Jahid Hossain, Hossain Ahammed alias Sifat, Yasin alias Ajmain, Ariful Islam, Mahim Chowdhury Akash, Sakib, Sohel Rana, Md Naim and Md Martuza Tamim, a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) release said here today.
Quoting Adabor Police Station sources, the release said that on June 2 at around 11:00 am, Sadman Sakib, 27, reached Shyamoli Bus Stand when members of the gang abducted him and took him to a narrow alley behind a nearby Bata showroom. They snatched his money and mobile phone and threatened him, forcing him to call his family members to demand an additional Taka 50,000.
As Sakib refused, they started beating him. Sensing the presence of patrolling police, the abductors attempted to flee. However, police, with the help of local people, arrested Jahid Hossain, a key member of the gang.
Later, acting on information provided by him and with the help of information technology, Adabor Police Station conducted operations and arrested the remaining members of the gang.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the gang had been operating in areas including Shyamoli intersection, Shyamoli Ring Road and Shyamoli Housing, stopping pedestrians, abducting them and extorting ransom.
