DHAKA, June 2, 2026 (BSS) -  Md. Muhidul Islam, an Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), official sources said here today.

Previously, he served as Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and as Member of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB). He also held several key positions in field administration, serving in important capacities in districts including Kishoreganj and Rajbari, among others.

Muhidul Islam obtained an advanced degree in Maritime Affairs from the World Maritime University, a specialized institution established under the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the sources added.
