DHAKA, June 01, 2026 (BSS)- Elderly politician and former minister Tofail Ahmed passed away at a private hospital here today while undergoing treatment. 

“Tofail Ahmed breathed his last at 3.30pm today at Square Hospital,” his son-in-law Dr Tauhiduzzaman Tuhin told reporters.

He was 82. 

Tofail is survived by her only daughter, relatives and a host of admirers and well-wishers to mourn his death.

He was suffering from old-age complications for long. The former minister was admitted to the hospital with respiratory and cardiac complications on September 24, 2025.

Born on October 22 in 1943 at Koralia village under Dakshin Dighaladi union of Bhola Sadar upazila, Tofail was elected Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) vice-president for 1968-69 session.
