DHAKA, June 1, 2026 (BSS) - The Jatiyatabadi Bankers' Association, Bangladesh (JBAB) has condemned an alleged assault on Md Omar Faruk, joint convener of the association's central committee, in the capital's Motijheel and called for the immediate arrest of those responsible.
In a statement issued today, JBAB convener Md Iqbal Hossain and member secretary Md Mostafizur Rahman Mostak alleged that Md Omar Faruk, a Principal Officer at Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC and Joint Convener of the association's central committee, was physically harassed and threatened by a group of individuals in the capital.
According to the statement, the incident occurred around 11:30 am today while Omar Faruk was having tea at a roadside tea stall near the bank's Motijheel office.
The statement added that a group of 20 to 25 people, allegedly led by Shahin Ahmed Khan, former Ameer of the Paltan Thana unit of Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka Metropolitan and current member of the Dhaka Metropolitan South Working Committee, approached him and sought to verify his identity and bank credentials.
The JBAB said Omar Faruk presented his bank ID card and identified himself as a bank employee before asking the reason for the inquiry. The association alleged that the group subsequently became aggressive, created a mob situation, physically harassed him, and threatened him with consequences if he disclosed the incident.
The organization strongly condemned the alleged assult and demanded that law enforcement authorities investigate the matter and bring those responsible to justice.
