DHAKA, June 1, 2026 (BSS) - Private carrier Air Astra has expanded its fleet to five aircraft with the induction of a brand-new ATR72-600 and announced plans to add two more aircraft by July as part of its network and capacity expansion strategy.

The airline welcomed its first brand-new ATR72-600 aircraft at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Sunday evening after the aircraft arrived from Toulouse, France, said an airline press release here today.

Before landing at HSIA, the aircraft performed a low-pass demonstration over the airport and was later accorded a traditional water cannon salute.

With the latest addition, Air Astra's fleet now comprises five aircraft.

The airline said it plans to gradually induct two more aircraft by July this year, strengthening its operational capacity and supporting future route
expansion.

According to the airline, the new ATR72-600 is powered by Pratt & Whitney PW127XT engines, known for their fuel efficiency and reliability in regional operations.

The aircraft is configured with 72 Geven Neo Prestige seats designed to provide enhanced passenger comfort on domestic routes.

Air Astra said the aircraft's induction would enable the airline to increase flight frequencies, expand its network and offer a more modern travel experience for passengers.

The ATR72-600 is a widely used regional turboprop aircraft recognized globally for its operational efficiency on short-haul routes.

The arrival ceremony was attended by Chargé d'Affaires of the France Embassy  Mr. Frédéric Inza, who welcomed the airline's expansion with the French-built aircraft, regarded as one of the world's best-selling turboprop airliners for regional operations.

Speaking on the occasion, Air Astra Chief Executive Officer Imran Asif thanked the airline's employees and government regulators for their support in the carrier's continued growth and expansion.

The event concluded with a live acoustic performance celebrating the milestone in the airline's development.
