CHATTOGRAM, May 31, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Land and Hill Tracts Affairs, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, stated that the two principles cherished by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman from the outset, which guided his actions, are patriotism and integrity.
Shaheed Zia and integrity are essentially interchangeable terms in the context of Bangladeshi politics, he said, noting that despite numerous critics voicing their opinions, none have successfully challenged the notions of Shaheed Zia's patriotism and integrity.
"This represents the pinnacle of human achievement. Shaheed Zia asserted that politics ought to serve humanity rather than personal gain. We must strive for the betterment of society by adhering to this principle of his," he emphasized.
Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin made these remarks during his address as the chief guest at a discussion meeting entitled "Ziaur Rahman's Contribution to Protecting Independence and Sovereignty, Establishing Multi-Party Democracy, and Building Modern Bangladesh," which was organised by the Chattogram City Swchasebok Dal this afternoon.
This discussion was held at the Shaheed Zia Memorial Museum Auditorium in Chattogram to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the martyrdom of President Ziaur Rahman.
Alhaj Ershad Ullah, MP, Abu Sufian, MP, and Nazimur Rahman, the Member Secretary of Chattogram City BNP, participated as the special guests.
Mir Helal remarked that for the last 17 years, Bangladesh has been ensnared in a web of deceit. There has been an effort to rewrite history in a misleading manner.
“We must understand Shaheed Zia's life philosophy ourselves and also communicate it to the public,” he added.
He further stated that during every transitional phase in Bangladesh, Shaheed Zia and the Zia family have stepped forward. They have supported the nation and its citizens, whether during 1971 or 1975, the mass uprising of the 90s, the struggle against the Moinuddin-Fakhruddin regime, or the July 24 mass uprising.
The discussion meeting was presided over by Belayet Hossain Bulu, the convener of Chattogram City Swchasebok Dal, with member secretary Eng. Jamir Uddin Nahid serving as the moderator.
