BAGERHAT, May 31, 2026 (BSS) - A discussion meeting, prayer meeting and food distribution programme were organized by the Kachua Upazila BNP were held on the occasion of the 45th martyrdom anniversary Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, proclaimer of independence, promoter of multi-party democracy, valiant freedom fighter and architect of modern Bangladesh.

Dhaka University Vice Chancellor and BNP Central Executive Committee Education Affairs Secretary Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam was present as the chief guest at the programme organized at the Upazila Parishad auditorium today. Upazila BNP President Sardar Zahid chaired the event. 

Speaking as chief guest Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam paid rich tribute to the memory of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and said, “Shaheed Zia was the architect of modern Bangladesh, a visionary statesman and a symbol of the people’s hopes and aspirations at the moment of national crisis”. 

“From declaring independence to rebuilding the war-torn country, re-establishing multi-party democracy and establishing a nationalist political philosophy, his contribution will be written in golden letters in the history of Bangladesh,” he added. 

He said Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman took groundbreaking steps in the development of the country’s agriculture, industry, education and infrastructure while in power. His various initiatives to increase food production, strengthen the rural economy, conduct canal digging programmes, export of manpower, develop the private sector and build a self-reliant economy solidified the foundation of the country’s development, he added. 

“His nationalism, patriotism, honesty, dedication and leadership qualities still inspire the young people of the country. His ideals and philosophy will be a guide for the new generation in building a prosperous, democratic and self-respecting Bangladesh,” the DU VC said.

Other speakers at the discussion meeting were District BNP leader Khan Monirul Islam, Upazila BNP General Secretary SM Touhidul Islam, BNP leader Molla Abdul Gaffar, Sheikh Anwar Hossain, Sikder Monirul Islam, Md. Kamrul Islam, Kazi Jadrel Hossain, Tarafdar Azgar Ali, Jubo Dal leader Emdadul Haque Masud, Sheikh Sujan, Krishak Dal president Al Mamun Mukti, Swechchhasebak Dal leader Sardar Nahid, and leaders of Upazila BNP and its affiliates and associate organizations.

At the end of the discussion meeting, special prayers and prayers were offered for the forgiveness of the soul of Martyr President Ziaur Rahman and for peace, prosperity and welfare of the country and the nation.

Later, food items were distributed among the poor, helpless and distressed people on the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. 

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor also spoke as the chief guest on the occasion of the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at the initiative of Morelganj Upazila BNP, and later he planted a sapling.
