JHENAIDAH, May 30, 2026 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has called on students to acquire education and work towards building a corruption-free society to serve Bangladesh.
“Those who looted Bangladesh, laundered money abroad, built ‘Begum Paras’ in Canada and in different countries around the world, all of them are at least Master’s degree holders. They are also educated. But they are corrupt. The poor, farmers and hungry people of my country do not know how to steal,” he said.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a reception programme for meritorious students as the chief guest at Shailkupa in Jhenaidah this afternoon. The programme was organised by the BCS Cadre Forum, Shailkupa, at the Shailkupa Upazila Parishad Auditorium.
The programme was chaired by President of the Shailkupa BCS Forum and Director of the National Burn Unit Professor Dr Md Nasir Uddin. General secretary of the forum and Joint Secretary Gias Uddin, and retired Additional Inspector General of Police Shahabuddin Khan, among others, also spoke at the event.
Addressing students who have recently secured admission to different universities, the law minister said, “Among you, those who will become BCS officers, doctors and engineers, I would request you to build a corruption-free society to serve Bangladesh.”
He said, “If you see any corrupt person in Shailkupa, and if you think that I am also involved in corruption, then raise your voice to bring me to the right path. If we fail to do this, then, as I repeatedly quote poet Helal Hafiz, ‘I will remain a symbol of a timid coward to future generations.’”
Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman said, “A person does not need a great deal of money to live. There is no need for excessive wealth. It is good to have an attachment to life. But that attachment should be for living healthily, living well and remaining accountable to one’s conscience.”
Later, crests and commemorative gifts were presented to the meritorious students.
