Ansar extends humanitarian supports to fire affected people in Kalshi slum

DHAKA, May 30, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) today extended humanitarian support to the people affected by a recent devastating fire at Kalshi slum in the capital.

Cooked food was distributed among approximately 1,250 distressed residents affected by the fire at the Bouniabadh Kalshi slum area.

The fire, which broke out on May 25, destroyed numerous houses, leaving hundreds of families homeless and pushing them into severe humanitarian crisis. Many of the victims were forced to take shelter in the open sky amid acute shortages of food and essentials supplies.

The relief distribution was carried out at the Bouniabadh Ideal High School ground to meet the immediate basic needs of the affected people during the holy Eid-ul-Azha period, when many families were already facing hardship.

To ensure smooth and orderly distribution, extensive security arrangements were taken place. A total of 41 Ansar members and 35 VDP members, both male and female, participated in the food distribution drive.

Officials said the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP have long been involved in maintaining internal security as well as providing assistance in disaster and crisis situations. They reaffirmed their commitment to continuing humanitarian support in future emergencies.

The event was attended by Director (Wing) Shubhra Chowdhury and Deputy Directors Arifur Rahman and Md. Kamruzzaman, along with officers and personnel from various stations.
