DHAKA, May 27, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Mir Shahe Alam today said the appointment of political administrators across all city corporations has significantly elevated the quality of civic services and brought visible improvements to urban management.

The state minister made these remarks while speaking to journalists after inspecting the ongoing preparations for the main Eid-ul-Azha congregation at the Jatiya Eidgah. Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator valiant freedom fighter M Abdus Salam accompanied him during the visit.

Reflecting on the administrative changes, the LGRD state minister described the deployment of political administrators as a far-sighted decision by the Prime Minister.

He pointed to the DSCC as a prime example, noting that civic amenities have multiplied under the new leadership, with noticeable progress achieved in waste management modernization, mosquito control and urban greening compared to previous years.

Expressing his satisfaction with the arrangements at the Jatiya Eidgah, Mir Shahe Alam announced that nearly 35,000 devotees across 121 rows will be able to perform their Eid-ul-Azha prayers at the central venue. The first Eid congregation is scheduled to be held at 7:30am.

To ensure the comfort of the devotees, the state minister highlighted that adequate fans, air-conditioning systems, pure drinking water, ablution areas, mobile toilets and primary healthcare facilities have been set up throughout the Eidgah ground.

A separate entrance and dedicated prayer area have also been arranged for female devotees.

Furthermore, the state minister praised the DSCC's comprehensive preparations for managing the waste of sacrificial animals during Eid.

He noted that all sacrificial animal waste is targeted to be removed within eight hours on the first day of Eid, marking a major milestone in efficient urban management.

Later in the day, the state minister inaugurated the beautification works of a Secondary Waste Transfer Station (STS) in the Palashi area adjacent to the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Senior officials of the DSCC were also present at the event.
