DHAKA, May 10, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today launched a scientific pre-monsoon survey on Aedes mosquito larvae under its own management for the first time to strengthen dengue and chikungunya prevention efforts in the capital.

The initiative aims to identify high-risk areas and potential dengue hotspots in advance to facilitate timely preventive measures before outbreaks intensify.

DSCC Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam inaugurated the programme at Buriganga Hall of Nagar Bhaban today.

Speaking at the event, he said dengue has become one of the major public health threats in urban life, making it essential to identify mosquito breeding sources and take prompt action early.

"For the first time, we are conducting this survey independently using scientific methods. Identifying areas with high Aedes breeding will help contain dengue at an early stage," he said.

According to DSCC sources, 2,250 houses have been selected as samples, with 30 houses chosen from each of the corporation's 75 wards.

The 12-day survey is being conducted through random sampling by 36 field workers from DSCC and the Communicable Disease Control wing of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The digital platform "KoboToolbox" is being used to ensure transparency and accuracy in data collection.

After the inauguration, the administrator inspected survey activities at the Central Veterinary Hospital near Fulbaria intersection, where he found stagnant water, waste and Aedes larvae, and ordered immediate action.
