DHAKA, May 7, 2026 (BSS) – Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam today said the government is working to establish an international-standard airport in Bogura following the directive of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

“The government is attaching special importance to Bogura as there is no international airport in the northern region of the country,” she said while visiting Bogura Airfield and adjacent areas.

The minister also highlighted a plan to establish a modern flying academy in the region to produce skilled civilian pilots through advanced training programmes, said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate release this evening.

State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam accompanied the minister during the visit.

Chief of Air Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan was also present on the occasion.

During the visit, the air chief expressed hope that implementation of the proposed initiatives would accelerate the country’s economic growth, create employment opportunities in the region and further strengthen military capabilities in protecting national airspace.

He also expressed hope that, with government support, a new air base would be established in Bogura in the near future where modern fighter aircraft could be inducted, further enhancing the country’s air defence capabilities.

The BAF chief further assured that the Bangladesh Air Force would provide all-out support for establishing the proposed flying academy under the initiative of the Bangladesh Air Force Welfare Trust, the ISPR release added.

Local lawmakers, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Secretary and Chairman, Bogura Superintendent of Police and senior military and civil officials were present on the occasion.
